Korra’s just mad because she knows she’d do the same.
How Korra learns.
I don’t have a problem with Korra getting beat up. She’s a physical fighter so that’s the kind of situation she’s going to be in, win and lose. I don’t have a problem with her learning by doing. It makes sense for her that theory wouldn’t stick, but physical practice would.
I have a major fucking problem with Korra learning the one skill she set out to learn by literally having her head beat in by the villain. Aang learned bending from his teachers and how to be the Avatar variously from Roku, Guru Pathik, and actually just trying to do stuff himself. Korra learns the Avatar State by giving up so Aang can hand it to her. All of the fight scenes in the show exist solely to grind Korra down, to make her a complete failure, and frankly, by the end it’s gratuitous and disgusting.
Senor Lin grades their character arcs. Maybe they needed more sombreros?
Just so we’re clear—he’s Zuko’s grandson, not his son. I think there was some speculation about whether he was his son or grandson. It is his grandson. He’s voiced by Dante Basco. The idea behind him was to have a swashbuckling hero-type guy. He’s the youngest general in the United Forces which is kind of the U.N. of the “Avatar” world now.

swashbuckling hero-type guy.
The evolution of Mako’s “I just talked to Asami” face.
I feel like we somehow missed a step in this relationship. Mako was Mr Lust Bunnies over Asami when they first met, opened up about his childhood to her, and happily met her father. Fast forward to the current episode and he’s unwilling to even talk to her about their relationship and, aside from trying to persuade her to let the kiss issue go, I don’t think he touches her once. What happened?
If he was essentially only in lust with her, why not show him cooling off after realizing they have little in common? Why not have a scene where she’s rambling about racing and he’s bored out of his mind, or awkwardness about the difference in social class? Why do we still not know what he likes about being with her or what she likes about being with him?
Among my many, many problems with the love triangle, the biggest thing is that we are getting all of the drama with absolutely none of the enjoyable character moments that sell genuine relationships to the audience.
All I want in life is for a wacky sex comedy of errors episode where Iroh goes to Uncle Tenzin for advice on wooing the ladies like a proper gentleman, everyone overhears and flips out because OMG he’s going to ask Korra out, and then Iroh blushes his way through asking Lin out. And maybe kisses her hand while she commands him to never do that again.
And then they bang a lot. Korra can come too, come to think of it.
I really hope Mako gets his bending taken away — and not just because I hate him entirely.
I think at this point, since it seems there’s little to no chance of him getting a character arc via making a huge mistake, the only way for him to develop as a character at all is to lose his bending. If his key personality traits are protectiveness and being responsible, then losing the main means of protecting his brother and making a living would give him a chance to rebuild himself. Hopefully as a doper person this time around. It would also give Bolin a chance to step up and mature as he tries to take care of his big brother.
